A watch designed to be worn everyday and in every situation. Sounds good right? Of course it does, and that is exactly what Farr & Swit have delivered with the Seaplane. This is a watch that is right at home in the business world and in the boating world.
The Seaplane features a 42mm brushed stainless steel case with an optional black PVD coating, and touts a scratch resisting sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Where this one really starts to take off for me is with the bezel. The unidirectional bezel features a sapphire coating that just further adds to the durability, and is awesome to find on a watch at this price point. The bezel also is illuminated with Super Luminova on the numerals and indices. A protected screw down crown helps to ensure that this watch is right at home in the water.
Farr & Swit quite literally went above and beyond with the dial on the Seaplane. The dial features the waves of the ocean below meeting the starry sky above and creates a stunning and unique look. The blue chapter ring gives some separation from the black dial and the black bezel. The numerals, indices, and hands all feature BGW9 Super Luminova for a high quality illumination that glows a cool blue. It really does give the watch a pilot like feel while definitely maintaining the diver features, and it really does justice to its namesake.
Underneath the dial lies the Sellita SW-200 Swiss automatic movement, which in my opinion is about as good as movements get in this price range. The watch will be accurate, reliable, and smooth for many years to come. An exhibition case back allows you to really enjoy all aspects of a wonderful movement.
Farr & Swit offer two strap options between the 22mm lugs. The first is a beautiful black sailcloth with blue stitching and a deployment clasp, otherwise you can have a Barton Elite silicone band that has a great quality feel.
The watch is designed and assembled in the US, and production is limited to 500 examples. Farr & Swit donate a portion of sales to two Chicago based charities, so not only does the watch look good, it will make you feel good too.
For the money, you will be hard pressed to find anything with specs this good. It’s a very attractive watch that obviously was designed by watch enthusiasts for watch enthusiasts. Grab one while you still can!
